ABOUT
WHEAT STREET
Wheat Street Baptist Church is unique in that it
touts one of the nation's oldest African-American church Federal
Credit Unions; also, under Wheat Street's umbrella is the
Action Mission, the
Charitable Foundation
and the Wheat Street Village.
There is something for everyone at Wheat Street. There are approximately
50 (fifty) Groups and Auxiliaries of the Church that encompass
Toddler to Mature Adults.

There are six(6) choirs ranging from the Youth
Choir to the Hand-bell Choir and you may take instruction in voice,
sight singing, and piano at the Wheat Street Music Studio:

Deaconess Board --
Serves as spiritual role models for the female members of the
church.
Mothers' Board -- Proclaim the Gospel to believers and
nonbelievers and support the Pastor and Deacons in leading the
church in pursuit of its Christian Mission as authorized by our
Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Senior Deacons Board -- (Scriptural Office - Acts 6: 1-7,
1 Timothy 3: 8-13).
Trustee Ministry -- Financial Officers of the church.

Organizations And Committees Include:
Action Mission
-- distributes food and clothing to the needy; serves as referral
agency for several churches and civic organizations.
African Heritage Committee - Plans special programs for
Black History Month.
Announcers Guild -- Responsible for making church announcements.
Birth month Clubs
Borders Courtesy Guild -- Secure information from visitors
entering the sanctuary on Sundays and extend welcome during morning
services.
Builders Club - Goal is to build strong Christians through
a prayerful atmosphere and the inspiration which it nurtures.
Carnation Club - Provide flowers for the Sanctuary.
Charitable Foundation
-- A non-profit independent entity incorporated through the office
of the Secretary of State of Georgia. Oversees commercial and
residential church properties through the Board of Directors.
Christian Education Committee -- Studies, evaluates, and
plans for Christian Education programs.
Couples' Club - Give married couples an opportunity to
come together, fellowship, and enhance personal relationships
by putting CHRIST and JOY in their lives.
First Lady's Club - Support the First Lady in areas or
personal assistance as needed and identified.
Funeral Arrangements Coordinators - Provide assistance
to family members of the deceased.
Hearing Impaired Ministry - Sign Language Class members
bring service to the hearing impaired.
JPB Memorial Nurses Guild - Assist members in church when
they become ill. Sponsor an annual forum to update the church
on current medical issues.
Loyal Supporters/Auxiliary in Grady Homes (LSAGH) - fellowship
and support organization.
Meridian Adult Fellowship -- Collective group of young
and mid-age adults who are committed to the needs and concerns
of the children and youth of the church.
Mighty Men of Wheat Street -- all men of the church.
Missions Committee -- helps our church "Make Full
Proof" of its Mission Ministry.
Modernistic Workers Club - Fellowship and support organization.
Nursery Guild - Provide care for infants, toddlers, and
pre-school age children during the worship service.
Outreach Ministry -- ministers to Metro Correctional Center,
J.C. Lemore Center, and other institutions.
Pastor's Aide Club - Aids Pastor and support church activities.
SASSSY Club -- Spirited and Spiritual Senior and Still
Young (fellowship, education, and recreation for seniors).
Scholarship/Graduate Recognition Day Committee - Plans
Baccalaureate Service and recognition of graduates.
Senior Deacons Wives Circle - Fellowship and support organization.
Social Service Guild - Liaison between Deacons and Membership
Committee in interviewing and welcoming new members into the Wheat
Street family.
United Sisterhood -- all women of the church.
UP and Coming Club - Actively involved to support church
and charitable activities.
Uplifters Club - Fellowship and support organization.
Wheat Street Village - arose
out of the concept that "it takes a village to raise a child".
Our area of concentration is the John Hope Catchment area. The
Wheat Street Village falls under the auspices of the Community
Concerns Committee. It hosts a GED program and weekly English
as Second Language (ESL) classes.
Wheat Street Church Federal Credit
Union (WSCFCU) -- founded in 1956 under the administration
of the late Rev. DR. William Holmes Borders, Sr. The WSCFCU is
one of the Nation's oldest Church Credit Unions. The credit
union was formed to promote thrift and create a source of credit
for its members by pooling members' savings to provide low cost
loans for productive purposes. Membership eligibility --
member of Wheat Street Baptist Church or immediate family of a
member of the church; resident of Wheat Street Towers or Gardens;
be employed in one of the the two shopping complexes owned by
the church; be an employee of a member of the credit union who
owns a business; or a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Madison,
GA. Hours of Operation are: 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. on Mondays,
Thursdays, and Fridays except the first week in the month
when the Credit Union is opened Monday - Friday from 9:00 a.m.
- 2:00 p.m.
Willing Workers Club - Church support organization.
Young Adult Fellowship (YAF) - Strives
to create and maintain a family within the family of
Wheat
Street
by serving the spiritual and social needs of young adults, single
and married. The YAF is committed to providing ample opportunities
for young adults to deepen their relationship with Christ and one
another, as well as, to connect their faith to the life issues
relevant to people in their 20s to early 40s.
